Established in the fall of 2001, the Sylvania Police Division’s Citizens Academy gives community
members insight into the duties of law enforcement officers and the complexity of following a crime
from reporting to prosecution. The Citizens Academy is taught by members of the Sylvania Police
Division and other criminal justice professionals.
Applicants must complete a background investigation, must be a resident of the City of Sylvania or
employed in the City of Sylvania. Enrollment is subject to the approval of the chief of police.
The Citizens Academy is a popular program. We suggest you contact community affairs at
community.affairs@sylvaniapolice.com or call 419-885-8906 to be placed on the waiting list and notified of the next Citizens Academy.
